Lady Macbeth Essays (601 words) - Characters In Macbeth,
Woman Macbeth Woman Macbeth The defeat of Macbeth was an incredible catastrophe. He realized it was wrong to slaughter the lord, yet he believed he had no other decision. He was caught into fouling up. Woman Macbeth gave him the malevolent thoughts all through the play. She was his main impetus. Without her, Macbeth wouldnt have done what he did. Accordingly, Lady Macbeth is as a very remarkable primary character as Macbeth seems to be. Macbeth says, Stars, conceal your flames; Let not light observe my dark and profound desires(1.4.57-58). Here he is communicating that while he wants to become lord and may have a couple of wickedness contemplations of how to accomplish that fantasy, he doesn't plan to follow up on them. It isn't until Lady Macbeth converses with him that he is more persuaded. Talking about King Duncan, she states, O, never will sun that morrow see! (1.5.71-72), essentially requesting Macbeth to kill him in their own home. Woman Macbeth is clearly the malicious one. That is evident when she gets Macbeths letter and reacts by saying, Yet do I dread thy nature. It is excessively brimming with the milk of human kindness(1.5.16-17). This shows she realizes Macbeth won't murder Duncan all alone. She assumes control over issues and chooses to persuade him. Macbeth opens scene seven by giving a not insignificant rundown of reasons not to murder King Duncan. He is his ruler and brother, his visitor, and an idealistic lord. With this rundown of reasons Macbeth gradually persuades himself not to submit the homicide. He at that point advises Lady Macbeth regarding his choice to continue no further in this business(1.7.34). Woman Macbeth challenges that and considers him a quitter, not a man. She blames him for backpedaling on his sworn word to her, and with rough language pronounces that she would run out the cerebrums of her own infant, had she vowed to as Macbeth had vowed to murder Duncan. She at that point guarantees Macbeth that disappointment is unthinkable, so, all in all Macbeth is persuaded by and by to slaughter the ruler. Macbeth had settled not to slaughter the lord after much considering it, yet Lady Macbeth convinced him to do it. Not exclusively did Lady Macbeth persuade her better half to kill King Duncan, yet she additionally made the courses of action to make it conceivable. Toward the start of Act two, scene two Lady Macbeth educates us that the gatekeepers are completely inebriated. She proceeds to state, I laid their knifes prepared; He was unable to miss em(2.2.15-16). Woman Macbeth made all the game plans important for the homicide of King Duncan, with the goal that all Macbeth needed to do was play out the demonstration. All in all, Lady Macbeth persuaded Macbeth to kill Duncan, persuaded him again when he was uncertain, and made all the correct plans which is the reason Lady Macbeth is as a very remarkable primary character of the play as Macbeth himself seems to be. Macbeth would not like to kill Duncan in any case until his significant other talked him into it. At that point, when he altered his perspective, Lady Macbeth provoked him until he concurred indeed to kill the ruler. At last, Lady Macbeth ensured that everything was set up for the homicide. On a superficial level no doubt Macbeth was liable for the homicide since he carried out the wrongdoing, yet when more is added something extra to it, it turns out to be evident that Lady Macbeth was increasingly dependable. The Ultimate Guide to Getting Noticed and Promoted (Get a Promotion in 4 Steps)
The Ultimate Guide to Getting Noticed and Promoted (Get a Promotion in 4 Steps) If youâve avoided asking for a promotion because you werenât sure how, or if youâve waited for your employer to promote you instead of asking, then youâre likely missing out on the best opportunities to advance your career.Ive been promoted twice myself and spent most of my career as a professional recruiter. So today Im going to share 4 key steps to getting promoted in ANY company. And all while completely bypassing the competition (your coworkers).HOW TO GET NOTICED AND GET PROMOTEDThe best way to stand out and get promoted is by asking directly. Companies often have promotion opportunities available for those who ask, long before they publicly announce the opportunity. And asking is also more effective because you wonât be competing with every other qualified person for the promotion. Some organizations can also custom-create a position for you. Your manager could design a new position, talk to other team leaders to discuss transfers, and get creative to find ways for yo u to do more (and earn more). They key is to ask, though. Managers arenât mind-readers and donât always assume youâre looking to advance. (In my experience as a recruiter, many people would rather stay in their comfort zone and not advance. The point is: Your boss doesnât know what you want unless you tell them). But donât just run into your bossâ office and tell them you want 3x your salary or youâre going to quit (Have fun looking for a new job). There are a few CRUCIAL steps to take first.By following the steps Iâm about to share, youâre going to demonstrate your value to the company and make yourself indispensable, so that you have the best possible chance of hearing âyesâ when you ask for a higher-level position.1. Become ultra-reliable in your current role The first step to getting promoted is showing your boss that youâre rock-solid in your current role. You want to be the person who your boss never has to worry about; that one person who they know w ill get the work done no matter how hectic things get and how much else theyâre worried about as a manager. So the first thing I recommend to anyone looking for a raise or promotion is to do an âauditâ of your current work performance.Review your core responsibilities (from the job description of your role) and list out which pieces you feel youâre above-average at, which youâre average at, and which need improvement or are below-average.Your goal should be to have every core responsibility be average or above-average. There should be no weaknesses, and at least a few areas should be above-average.Then, if you feel something needs improvement, either decide if you can handle it on your own, or seek assistance. Sometimes asking for advice can help speed up your development, so donât be afraid to go to a coworker or manager and say:âIâm trying to improve in ___, do you have time this week to share some tips and ideas? It seems like a topic that youâre very knowledge able about.âMost people think asking a question is a sign of weakness that will prevent you from being promoted. ITS NOT. Itâs actually a great first step to signal to your boss that youâre taking initiative to improve, and that you care about your development at work.2. Go above and beyond whatâs asked of youAfter youâre consistently above-average in your core role, look for ways to go beyond your managerâs expectations. This will show them youâre working hard to contribute.Try to solve problems without being asked. Spot potential issues before they become big problems and take care of them.Anything you can do to save your manager time or effort is a big win. If you canât solve something yourself, try to bring it to their attention before it becomes a major issue. For example, you could say:âHi Amy, I was doing ___ today and noticed a potential problem with ___. The issue I saw was ___. I donât want to bog you down with details, but I thought that if this isnâ t resolved now, it could end up costing us more time in the future, so I wanted to try to stay ahead of this and see what you thought about it now.âBecome the person your boss trusts as a second set of eyes and ears on the team. Show them youâre thinking about the âbig pictureâ and seeing beyond your day-to-day job duties. Work to understand how the team functions overall and how they interact with other groups. This will start to signal your boss that youâre a good candidate for higher-level work. 3. Expand your job duties âunofficiallyâNext, itâs time to ask for ways to play a bigger role (without asking for more money or a new job title, yet). This will expose you to new challenges, give you a sense of what type of role youâll enjoy as you grow, and most importantly will show your boss that youâre ready for a promotion.Whereas in the last step, you were doing small things to go above and beyond your job duties, youâre now asking for responsibilities to be added to your day. As an example from my own career: While working as a recruiter, I asked to be on the panel of people who interviewed new candidates that we were considering hiring.I wasnât initially invited onto this panel, but by simply asking, I was able to join it! This is an important lesson to take away: If you donât ask, the answer is always no.I could have assumed that there was a reason I wasnât invited onto this panel and given up. In fact, the idea crossed my mind. Fortunately, I asked my boss about it, and she simply said, âOh, no problem. I didnât realize you wanted to be a part of this.âAs a recruiter, I also trained and mentored new team members. I was given this responsibility because I asked for it, too.Iâd listen to their phone calls, give feedback, teach them my best scripts and opening lines when âcold calling,â etc. This showed my managers that I was able to lead, teach, be a mentor to newer staff, and ended up earning me a promotion from Recruiter to Project Manager soon after. The key was asking for responsibilities before asking for a promotion. I demonstrated my value first, then asked for more money after. 4. Ask for a promotion (when youâre ready, not when one opening is announced)Once youâve gone through the steps above, itâs time to tell your manager that youâre interested in an official promotion. You should do this whether or not a promotion opportunity has been announced. The timing of this is based on your performance, not based on whatâs happening in the company. As mentioned earlier, if you wait for a promotion to be publicly announced, youâre going to have way more competition. And thatâs going to make it nearly impossible to stand out. In the next section, weâll look at how to ask your boss for a promotion step-by-stepASKING FOR A PROMOTION: HOW TO HAVE THE CONVERSATION WITH YOUR BOSSOnce youâve followed the steps above, youâre in a great position to ask for a promotion. The best way to do this is face-to-face. Itâs a bit intimidating if youâve never done it before, but thatâs why Iâm going to walk you through everything you need to know. The reality is: Doing a mediocre job at delivering your message in-person is still more impressive (and more effective) than sending the perfect message via email. This type of conversion is best done in-person and your boss will respect and appreciate what youâre saying a lot more if you deliver it to them face-to-face.Set up a dedicated time to talkFirst, this discussion is important and deserves its own conversation. Donât bring this up at the end of a regularly-scheduled weekly check-in or other meeting.Get a separate meeting scheduled by emailing or asking your boss for a time to talk.I prefer email because if you ask your boss for a time to talk in-person, thereâs a chance theyâll say, âIâm available right now actually. Why donât you step into my office?â And if youâre not yet ready, this can be a problem. So I recommend sending an email to schedule a time to talk. Hereâs a template you can use:âHi NAME,Do you have 20 minutes available to talk this afternoon? I was hoping to discuss something in private with you.Best Regards, Your NameâPractice your opening lineNext, when you walk into the one-on-one meeting, you want to sound confident and never be apologetic. Start by saying, âThanks for meeting with me.â Never say, âSorry to bother you,â or âSorry for taking up your time.âItâs literally a part of your Managerâs job to discuss this with you, so never worry that youâre taking up their time; youâre not.Another way to boost your confidence is to practice this discussion at home with a friend or family member. While you canât predict how the real conversation will go, you can practice the opening, which will set the tone for the rest of the conversation and will help you feel more calm and confident.Be clear about what you wantAfter sitting down with your manager and thanking them for meeting with you, be clear and direct about what you wanted to discuss. You donât want to leave them guessing, as this will be seen as a lack of confidence or lack of belief in what youâre asking for.So get right to the point after sitting down. I recommend telling them that youâre excited about what youâre doing and how youâre developing. Then, tell them you wanted to discuss a potential promotion and find out what opportunities are available. Make it clear that youâre interested in moving to a higher level position.Put the ball in their courtOnce youâve been clear and direct about what you want, the best thing you can do is stop and ask for their thoughts. I recommend ending your request for a promotion with an open-ended question like, âWhat are your thoughts?â or âWhat do you think about this?âThis is more effective than continuing to talk and make your case because youâll find out specific objections if they hav e any, or specific limitations based on company situation, budget, etc. Donât panic if theyâre not quite convinced yet. You can still overcome their objections or to work toward a compromise, but you need to find out what theyâre thinking first.Overcoming objections/concernsIf your manager doesnât say, âyesâ immediately, try to remain calm and ask questions like: âWhatâs your main concern?â or, âWhat factors are making this not possible right now?âYouâll find out if your manager has specific concerns about your work, or whether itâs simply an issue of the company not having a place to promote you into (or the budget to do it), etc. Then, if itâs something specific, you can respond and address their concerns or come up with an action plan to revisit the conversation in the near future. For example, your manager might say, âYouâve been doing a great job here. However, for the next level in our group, youâd need a lot more hands-on experience with XYZ .âYou could say, âGreat, I understand. Is there a way we could begin exposing me to that type of work in a more hands-on manner, so that we can have this discussion again in 3 months?âSometimes it has nothing to do with your performance, too. Your manager might say, âI agree, your performance has been outstanding. Unfortunately, the company just doesnât have the budget to pay you more or move you into a higher-level position this year.â From here, you could ask if they expect a new budget to be released the following year (many companies receive new hiring budgets in January of each year and do a lot of hiring and promoting at that point).Plan to follow upWhatever you and your manager decide, plan a time to follow-up. If they say theyâre going to promote you or look into a promotion, say, âThatâs great. Whatâs your expected timeframe for this to happen?âIf they say that you need to work on a few things, say, âThanks. That feedback really helps. When would b e a good time to follow-up after I address these areas weâve talked about?âNow you have a timeline and an angle you can use to follow-up until you get the promotion you want!Stay positive (even if you hear ânoâ at first)No matter how the conversation goes, try to sound positive and optimistic when wrapping up the discussion. If the company is in a situation where they canât promote you immediately, then you can go home and plan accordingly (by deciding whether youâre willing to stay in your current role and wait for the situation to change, or whether you should begin an external job search.)If your boss told you something specific to work on thatâs within your control, then you can go home and strategize about how to address that. However, showing frustration or disappointment in-person isnât going to solve anything. So wait until youâre home to think about everything thatâs been said.Practice makes perfectIf you follow this plan, youâre going to give yourself the best chance at receiving a promotion while also strengthening your relationship with your boss. And the more you practice this type of communication, the better youâll get at it. So if you earn a promotion now, try to repeat the process in one or two years to keep advancing your career. If you change companies, wait a year and then try this in your new company as well.If you do this, youâll always know what type of opportunities exist in your company, and youâll have a significant advantage over your coworkers when it comes to landing promotions as they become available. Homeless Is Taking Over Hawaii - 943 Words
Homeless is Taking Over Hawaii While walking down Ala Moana Park, I see many homeless laying around. Feeling a little unsafe because I do not know if they will come up and do something. As time flies by, they should not be living on the street. It is not pleasant seeing them where ever you go. They are eve-rywhere and, ââ¬Å"at least 6,300 are homeless at given dayâ⬠(Hope para 1). As the facts says in Hope, ââ¬Å"Statewide, 12-15,000 people are homeless at some point of the yearâ⬠(para 1). Hawaiiââ¬â¢s homeless population should be addressed by the government because they affect tourism in a negative way. Mainlanders come to Hawaii to live on the streets. We ha ve a better weather climate compared to the mainland. This allows the homeless to come all the way here to live. With them on the street, it increases the population on the street. There are no official evidence of where they are coming from. Hawaii News Now mentions, ââ¬Å"We remain concerned this program is an invitation to purchase a one-way ticket to Hawaii guaranteed return flight homeâ⬠(Farrington para 8). Dissociative Identity Disorder and Abuse Essay - 1059 Words
Dissociative Identity Disorder and Abuse The condition once known as multiple personality disorder (MPD) is a very real psychological phenomenon that until recently was mis-understood and often mis-diagnosed. Dissociative identity disorder, DID, as we now call it, is a mental illness where a persons thoughts, feelings, and memories are scattered throughout two or more separate personalities within the victims mind (Appelbaum 107). In 1973 perhaps the worlds most famous psychiatric patient ever, Sybil brought attention to what was until then a rare diagnoses. Sybil was ritually abused as a child and was later found to possess sixteen separate personalities, including women with English accents and even two little boysâ⬠¦show more contentâ⬠¦Since 1973 numerous investigators have confirmed the high incidence of physical and sexual abuse in multiple personality. In 100 cases Putnam found an 83% incidence of sexual abuse, 75% incidence of physical abuse, 61% incidence of extreme neglect or abandonment and an overall 97 % incidence of any type of trauma (Putnam 53). It wasnt until the 1900s that these events were linked to DID (Appelbaum 110). A fictional novel, presented as a documentary, The Three Faces of Eve (1956) described a woman who was believed to have three personalities. This was the first multiple personality book to catch the attention of the public. It was later made into a movie which various sources date as being released in 1956 or 1957. The movie had a profound effect on the public, convincing many that multiple personalities were both possible and common. A second book, also presented as a documentary, described a woman who was believed to be possessed by 16 personalities. This was Sybil (1973), which also came out as a made for TV movie in 1976 (Schreiber 49). Those therapists who accept DID as a valid, common diagnosis believe that it is induced by extreme, repeated, physical, sexual, and/or emotional abuse during early childhood. DID has been diagnosed for over a century, often amid great controversy, but it wasnt until 1980 that there was clear definition.Show MoreRelatedDissociative Identity Disorder And Psychological Abuse Essay964 Words à |à 4 Pagesbrain trauma or psychological abuse to an individual. ââ¬Å"Mom is strong. She can fight this,â⬠I said. ââ¬Å"Right?â⬠ââ¬Å"Sheââ¬â¢ll fight her hardest. Thatââ¬â¢s for sure,â⬠my dad said. And thatââ¬â¢s exactly what she did. My momââ¬â¢s strength and integrity is what I admired the most about her. And they are the traits I wanted and needed as a 13-year-old watching her go through cancer treatment. One year later, things changed when her body rejected the chemo and radiation. Once the cancer moved to her liver, she moved into a hospice called Angelââ¬â¢s Grace. I believed some miracle would happen and she would magically be cancer free. But one day later, my dad called my sister and me to come in and say our goodbyes. When I saw our friends and relatives, I knew we were in this together by the way they all welcomed us. Watching my mom take her last breaths, I saw her end her pain. That smile is still stuck inside my head and I donââ¬â¢t want to forget it. Now with my sister off to college and my mom gone, itââ¬â¢s just my dad, my toy poodle, Ginger, and me. Iââ¬â¢ve taken on the responsibility of keeping the house clean and helping my dad cook. And Iââ¬â¢m the one who is there for him. I am molding into the person my mom was, yet Iââ¬â¢m also becoming my own person. Iââ¬â¢ve gained my momââ¬â¢s strength and perseverance despite her absence. I gained her positive outlook; I asked friends and family to join me in Relay for Life, raising money for people diagnosed with cancer. I inherited her integrity; I help my grandpawho has Multiple Sclerosis with his daily struggles. I can handle any tough situation that comes my way; like making decisions based on myself and not others.. Most importantly, I gained 14 years of memories with her I will never forget. My Angel free essay sample Standing outside the church, I felt the cool breeze run past my face. There was something different about this breeze. It felt lively as if a hand was running through my hair. Flowers were beginning to blossom and they were moving gracefully along with the breeze. There were birds everywhere and the strong scent of spring was familiar. I looked up into the sky and saw the sun rays beaming through the passages made by the clouds. The view of the sky and my surroundings was one which reminded me of a description from the bible. The formation of the clouds made me feel as if the heavens were opening up to let the angels out, and that is what I needed at that time, an Angel. At that moment I knew I could sit on the porch and gaze into the sky for hours but I was interrupted when my aunt took my hand and led me towards the entrance of the church. We will write a custom essay sample on My Angel or any similar topic specifically for you Do Not WasteYour Time HIRE WRITER Only 13.90 / page I took a deep breath and closed my eyes as I was about to face reality. I was not prepared and wanted so badly for this to all be a dream. I knew that once I passed those doors, my life would be changed forever. What seemed to be the perfect day, ended up being the worst day of my life. While most ten year old girls played with Barbies, I would be at the hospital looking after my mother. Every day I watched her get weaker even though she continued to fight against the battle of cancer. The enemy grew, and crawled like spiders inside her body destroying everything in its path. The destruction left behind caused my mom to be paralyzed waist down, deaf, and bald from the therapy. The only way my family and I could communicate with my mother was by writing everything down on a dry erase board. I detested seeing her in pain, and I knew she was hiding her true feelings from my sister and me every time we would visit her. It was unbearable for me to see her in the condition she was in and often I would leave the room so that I could keep myself together. The hardest part for my mother was when family would visit. She would have a hard time saying good bye, because she knew, deep inside, it may be the last time she would see them. I prayed intensely every night, crying, and begging for God to help my mom get well so she could come home; I desperately wanted my life to be normal again. I wanted my life to be like it used to be when my mom and I would go shopping together, when I would go to work with her, when I would sit and watch Mexican novelas with her while she played with my hair as I sat on her lap, and when she would brace me in her arms tightly every day before I went to school. But endless nights of praying led me nowhere. My mothers health deteriorated instead of getting better. I did not understand what I was doing wrong. I prayed for her, and believed God would answer my prayers. My mother was trying her best to live longer; but God was not letting her. Over time she lost the battle and passed away. Losing my Mom in this world forever impacted my life in ways I never expected. After her death, I blamed God for letting her go and refused to believe in him. I told myself that if God was real, He would not have let this happen to my mother, He would not have taken her away from me. I also questioned my mothers love for me, because I wanted to know why she had fought for so long and all of a sudden give up? How could she give up on her family and leave us? Then I realized, God did not take my mothers life to hurt me, He took her life so that she would be free from the pain and suffering she was going through. I then began to wonder how selfish could I have been? My Mom was in great pain and all I could do was think of myself and this led me to conclude that her leaving was for the best. Every night before I went to bed I cried, because I felt horrible. I knew God would forgive me for not believing in him, but I just prayed and worried that my Mom did not leave this world thinking that she had failed her family. Coping with her death was hard, and still is hard but I have learned a few things along the way: Never take life for granted, God has a reason behind ever situation, tomorrow is not promised like today, and to treat each day as if it were your last. As an individual, I have become a stronger person emotionally and mentally. For instance this situation has given me the courage to live past the loss of my mother and to accept reality as it comes. This has helped me persevere through other hardships I have come across and gives me strength to face the obstacles which lie ahead of me in the future. I have also become less selfish and have realized the importance of empathy and sympathy in life. My mothers death has motivated me to want to succeed in life, because I want my mother to be proud of me. Her education was limited to high school, and I know she would be happy to see me attending and graduating college. I cry from time to time as I remember how it used to be with her alive. I t alk to her at night telling her how much I miss her, and how I wish she was here to see me grow up into the woman I have become. I am certain that my Mom lives within my heart and I feel her soul in the breeze like I did that day before I walked through the church doors. If I close my eyes and concentrate, I can even picture her in front of me. I know she is looking down on me, smiling, as I write this essay to get accepted into college and begin a new chapter in my life. Even though time has passed and I am about to embark on a new journey I continue each day to smile because I know that God made the sky look as if the heavens were opening up that day for a reason; to take my mother as an angel, and yet, only to send her back down to be my angel for eternity.
